Bayou Bend Gardens: Who Would Have Known Houston Has Its Own Versaille!

Originally posted on A Color Pop Life:
Have you ever gone to a place, on a sporadic moment, because the something about the way the sun shined that day just screamed, “Be adventurous and do something different today?”  And, suppose that moment did happen for you – when you tried that something new, did you ever find yourself so happy you followed that inner voice.  And, the place you embarked upon was just so awesome you realized you could have stayed so much longer than you did?  Well, you – my friend – and I have something in common because this is exactly what happened to me when venturing to the Bayou Bend Gardens in Houston, Texas a few weeks ago! Initially, I was in a solemn mood on a recent March day … a sweet soul that I would like to remember as a friend I had just heard passed away unexpectedly, naturally casting a sadness over me … the sky was in this overcast/sunny conflict and it couldn’t make up its mind on…

Around Town: Houston Mac and Cheese Festival!

Do some extra workouts, put your stretchy pants on, and get your tickets now for the Houston Mac and Cheese Festival taking place Saturday, April 15th at Silver Street Studios in the Sawyer Heights District! So, you may or may not know that I am gluten sensitive and doing my best to live a gluten free life. But, man do I miss mac and cheese! And mac and cheese is one of those things you just can’t get away from when you have kids at home! They probably want mac and cheese twice and week (Annie’s Organic of course) and it takes every bit of my strength to not take just one bite of that gooey goodness when I prepare it for them. All of that aside, Houston is about to host it’s first ever Mac and Cheese festival at Silver Street Studios on April 15th and I am hoping that they will have some gluten free offerings. Nonetheless, I wanted to let you, our readers, know about it. There will be over two dozen …

Around Town: The New Grotto Ristorante in Downtown Houston is A Must!

If you’ve lived in Houston for any length of time you’ve probably dined at the Grotto’s located at Loop 610 and Westheimer. It’s kind of a Houston landmark! Well now there is a new Grotto in town located downtown on Avenida Las Americas and she’s a beauty! This past Friday my friend Holly and I decided to go take in some of the sights downtown as our great city is in preparations for hosting Super Bowl LI this coming weekend. Hungry, as usual, and so many great times with friends are spent over food and a great glass of wine, we decided to pop into the new Grotto. I was impressed from the minute we walked in. It is a gorgeous, industrial, but warm atmosphere. Taupe-y grey stone floors mingling with graphic black and white tiles. Light woods. Dark woods. White subway tile. Taupe-y grey brick. Steel grey metals. Stainless steel. Exposed pipes. Edison light bulbs. Large black framed picture windows and pops of green from succulents. There is also an expansive outdoor patio, which features …

And, as Bridgette stated in her post earlier this month titled, “Angie Dornier Photography: An Inspiration of a Passion Turned Profession” , we feel that there are many women right here in our own community that inspire! They are our friends, neighbors, and often cheer buddies at our kid’s sports events. They are just like us, doing their best to live a “simply happy” life! Hello, Hello To Be Simply Happy friends – this is Bridge!  Welcome to a post I like to reference as a “Local Highlight”.  Local Highlights is somewhat new on To Be Simply Happy‘s blog. A few months ago Angela and I both discussed the fact that we feel there are many people in the community that really are inspiring … and in keeping true to why we created the To Be Simply Happy blog, we feel that we have a great platform to be able to share where inspirational dimension of happiness are coming from. Therefore I want to introduce to you Angie Dornier! Angie is a beautiful mom, wife, and friend … BUT, she is also a really great photographer who has been offering photography services for the community for years.  But there’s a lot more to Angie that lends inspiration to me, in particular, that I also feel will inspire you, and hence what has compelled me to want to share more about her. First and foremost, Angie’s photos are really beautiful … and …
