Happy Chinese New Year: What Will The Year of The Rooster Bring?

The Year of the Rooster is almost here!! Chinese New Year is quickly approaching! This year it falls on Saturday, January 28th. The festivities surrounding the Lunar New Year typically last for about 2 weeks. What will the Year of the Rooster bring? More on the significance of the Rooster later in this post! Lunar New Year — which is sometimes called Chinese New Year even though it is celebrated across East Asia — falls on the first new moon between Jan. 21 and Feb. 20 each year. Google explains, “It’s a time for families to clean their houses, gather together and enjoy festive meals. And just like Christmas, it’s also, notoriously, a time when older relatives bug singletons about why they don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend, young couples about when they’re going to get married, and newly weds about why they don’t hurry up and have a baby already.” Here in the United States there are sure to be many New Year celebrations throughout our communities. Many individuals and communities, particularly Chinese communities, in …

Compliment Cards: Ten Compliment Cards To Share

Did you know there is such thing as National Compliment Day? … And, did you also know it is on January 24, 2017?  I love that we have this holiday AND I’m equally happy it falls at the beginning of the year, during a time people are paying most attention to their actions … their thoughts … and areas they want to adjust for a better self. The science of happiness is starting to grow traction in the buzz because it seems to be an area less understood, and one I personally feel we should pay more attention to.  In fact, in a recent special edition of Time magazine, The Science of Happiness: New Discoveries For A More Joyful Life, there is a piece of advice offered that connects perfectly to National Compliment Day: Be Nicer!  Not that I’m suggesting you aren’t the kind kid on the block, but be honest with yourself for a minute and calculate the number of times throughout your day you habitually, but genuinely…

A Lost Art: What Does Your Handwriting Say About You?

Hi TBSH friends! Did you know that Monday, January 23rd is National Handwriting Day? Well, it is. What does that mean? Not much really or, maybe more than you realize! Nonetheless, seeing that the day was coming up it got me to thinking about how the way you write can be an indicator of your personality. Per the “experts” in the field of grapholgy anyway… But, it also got me to wondering how much people actually take pen (or pencil) to paper amymore. I wonder that as I type this post out on the keyboard of my iPad Pro 🤔 And I can use funny emojis to express feelings 😊 I for one, do still write on paper every single day! I actually keep a written calendar that lists each days activities and things I need to do. Even though I may still log it in my iPhone’s calendar as well (I do like the alarm reminders). Before I go to the grocery store I always make a handwritten list so that I hopefully don’t …

8 Home Habits That Mean You are More Intelligent!

I was browsing the Internet earlier today and ran across this post from My Domaine. The title really intrigued me. Might I have any of the “home habits” that mean that I am more intelligent than some of my friends 🙂 Do you? Oh, and by the way, It’s National Ditch Your Resolutions Day today. Appropriate that this article would come out today. Obviously, not by chance…. Here’s the post from My Domaine:  “It’s easy to feel guilty about our bad habits, especially at the start of a new year when overachievers commit to waking up even earlier, working out even more, and being even more organized—leaving the rest of us feeling like lazy slobs. But what if our biggest flaws at home were actually a sign of higher intelligence? According to a variety of studies, our wishful thinking may be true. Finally, you have a witty response to the question, Why is your stuff lying around everywhere again? Or, Can you please stop playing video games? The answer may be as simple as, It …

Double-Up: Making The Most Of Your Time With Work and Friendships

Happy Wife – Happy Life … we’ve all heard this one (and, now I finally realize why it was created in the first place!).  But, what about Happy Friend – See You Again?  Okay, maybe it is a far stretch on that, but I think I’m kind of liking it 🙂  Where am I going with this?  Science has recently given us piles upon piles of new data recognizing multiple dimensions are contributing to our barometer of balance: family, friends, health, work, and worship … just to name the most prominent.  If I were talking to myself ten years ago, I would have said: “These need to stay on their own track – don’t mix any one together – one dimensional is the way to do it best.” In fact, I’ll be honest – I actually did that.  I started my career with a habit of never taking a lunch.  I’d nibble on things at my desk, but leaving the office was like the sin of all sins.  In…

On The Heels Of A New Year: A Mind Mapping Exercise To Craft Your Resolutions

I’m staring at the twelve monthly calendars I pinned onto my inspiration board in my home office, and I admiring the colorful artwork in all of it’s glory.  “I’m such a funny creature” passes through my inner monologue when I sit in a moment’s retrospect.  For some reason my memory takes me back to many years of where black, white, and gray were all you could find in my wardrobe … in my furniture … even in my dishes – any hint of color was forbidden in my daily routine.  And, look at me now … a thirty-something that just a few years ago allowed my world to be invaded by color, even if in sudden hints of color-pop, and I am forever a different person.  In fact, if ever you were to ask me now what my favorite color is you may be surprised to know it no longer begins with the letter “B”, but “O” for orange 🙂 And, as my eyes continue to wonder across…

5 Tips for Setting and Keeping Your New Year Resolutions

Hey there friends. HAPPY NEW YEAR! It’s kind of hard to believe that the holidays have come and gone. I don’t know why I am surprised by the quickness of it every year. But, I am…every year… So, here we are already 3 days into 2017. I am just now getting around to my first post of the new year. I had house guests for 5 days and sitting at my computer just wasn’t on the agenda. The last 5 days were all about family, food, fun, and yes, late nights. Today when I finally took some time to see what’s been going on out there in “Facebook and Instagram Land” I saw how many people had already started a running routine, a yoga challenge, juicing, and making resolutions, among other things. Boy, am I feeling late to the game! *The early Babylonians believed that what people did on the first day of the year affected what they did for the rest of the year* Oh crap! If that were true I’d be sipping champagne …

Tis The Season For Gift Wrapping: A Simple How-To on Wrapping Those Holiday Gifts

Hello TBSH!  It’s Bridgette, here, and I had a travesty hit me this week: yet another lost soul roaming the Houston landscape divulged they never learned how to gift wrap.  In fact, this individual even had the audacity to tell me they don’t like gift wrapping.  The horror … the horror of it all, I tell you! First, my immediate reaction was to not let my face show my shock and bewilderment.  Was this person robot?  Were they mental?!?!  (Just kidding on that one … OR, am I?!?!?)  Second, I gave them a hug.  Yes, I hugged a total stranger and it felt great 🙂  I had to hug them – I had pity for them and I just needed them to know everything will be better soon!  Third, I made a promise to myself, and to them, that I’d do a quick tutorial on how to wrap a simple gift … and this would change their life forever. To understand where I’m coming from with regards to my affinity towards gift wrapping, the first thing …
